Hawaii and COBRA Insurance

In Hawaii, COBRA insurance allows employees who have lost their job-based health coverage to temporarily continue their insurance through their former employer’s plan. The employee is responsible for paying the full premium, including the portion previously paid by their employer. COBRA coverage lasts for up to 18 months and is available to employees who left their job for any reason other than gross misconduct. To enroll in COBRA, the employee must notify their former employer within 60 days of losing their job-based coverage and make monthly payments to continue their coverage. This provides a temporary solution for individuals who are between jobs and helps ensure continuous health coverage.
