Wisconsin’s Mini-COBRA Law

The continuation statute in Wisconsin applies to the majority of group health insurance policies that provide hospital or medical care. If offered as distinct plans, stand-alone dental, vision, and prescription medication coverage are not necessary. The law applies to group plans issued by any size company.

Additionally, employees who live outside of Wisconsin while working for a Wisconsin-based business are eligible for continuing coverage. The statute does not apply to self-funded workplace health plans or policies that cover only certain diseases or accidental accidents.
